Lunchtime Concerts at Grosvenor Chapel 2012
Music is a very important element of life at the Grosvenor Chapel. We hold a series of Lunchtime concerts from Easter to Christmas each year; admission to the concerts is free but a retiring collection will be taken to support music at the Chapel. A minimum donation of £4 would be appreciated.
The organ was built by William Drake in 1991 within the original case made by Abraham Jordan in 1732.
Lunchtime Concerts are held on Tuesdays at 1.10pm and last for 40 minutes.
Admission free - retiring collection
A new series of organ concerts will begin in May 2012 following the restoration of the Chapel interior.
Tuesday May 8 Margaret Phillips (Professor of Organ, Royal College of Music)
Tuesday May 22 Joseph Sentance (St Stephen, Walbrook)
Tuesday June 5 Richard Hobson (Grosvenor Chapel)
Tuesday June 19 James Johnstone (Professor, Guildhall School of Music)
Tuesday July 3 Anthony Gritten (Royal Academy of Music)
Tuesday July 17 Sean Farrell (Wellington College)
Tuesday July 31 Ian Hockley
Tuesday August 14 Alexander Pott (Organ Scholar, Chelmsford Cathedral)
Tuesday August 28 Richard Hobson (Grosvenor Chapel)
Programmes will be published in due course, as will details of concerts in the autumn. There will also be some special events to mark 21 years of the William Drake organ.
Organists who would like to be included in the series should send their CV and details of recent performances to Richard Hobson at hbsrnh@aol.com. A small fee is offered to help defray the expenses of performers.
The series is primarily for organists, but we do occasionally include chamber music and other solo instrumentalists (the chapel has a good, modern grand piano). Please contact Richard Hobson as above if you would like to be considered.
Those wishing to promote their own concert at the Chapel should contact the administrator.
